Tips & Tricks

I have found that many users never took advantage of the features of Desktop Resetter 1. These features are also in Desktop Resetter 2, and are recommmended.

More Speed!!You can get much more speed out of the program by simply turning on a few settings. For example, if you turn on Auto Quit in the Automate section, this will speed things up since the program will try to switch to the desktop as soon as it can.

Try to keep an alias to the program in the Apple Menu or on the desktop (or wherever you find handy). This way, you can quickly access the program so it can fix your desktop without requiring any extra steps and time.

In the Popup Windows section of the Settings, it is highly recommended that you turn on the Reset Popups Only When Keys are Pressed. Since popups take the longest time to reset (by far) and they only need to be reset at certain times and not others, it is recommended that you use this option. This way, the popups will only be fixed when you hold the appropriate combination (whether at startup time or while pressing the Reset button).

AutomationYou can automate Desktop Resetter so that it will automatically reset and rememember at launch time of the program. If you use these options, you can have it so that you get no Desktop Resetter dialog. The program launches, does its thing, and then quits. Quick, easy, and gets the job done. Should you need to access the dialog, you can hold command while launching the program.

I recommend that you turn on Auto Remember with the Control Key, and Auto Reset with no keys. This way, the program will remember the desktop if you launch it while holding control and it will reset if you launch it holding no keys.

If you use these features, it is also recommended that you use the Popup Windows features mentioned above.

These features also go handy when you have the Launch at Startup option checked (see below).

Startup TimeI recommend that you have Desktop Resetter launch at startup time. Many times, the hard drives and the trash just won't stay put. If you have the program launch at startup, it will fix these problems instantly, making itself real handy! To have it launch at startup, check the Launch at Startup checkbox in the General pane of the Settings window.
